1 This is Our World Sears, Paul B.
Norman, OK, U.S.A. University of Oklahoma Press 1937 Stated 1st Edition Hard Copy Very Good+ Fair Sears, Paul B. Inscribed By Author
University of Oklahoma Press, Norman, 1937. Inscribed by author to Brigadier General Roy Hoffman (who was commander of the 63rd Division in France during WW I and was awarded France's highest military honor) on the front free end page as follows: "To General & Mrs. Roy Hoffman with sincere good wishes Paul B. Sears Nov.1937". Stated 1st edition. Book is in Very Good+ condition: bumped corners; spine slightly cocked; tanning from age; binding is tight and pages are clean. Dust jacket is in Fair condition: tears and large chips missing on edges and folds; not price-clipped. From the dust jacket: "No book quite like this one has ever been written before. It introduces a majestic conception of life on this planet which must have a profound effect on our social, economic, and political thinking. Here, the idea of the culture pattern, a force of vast yet hitherto unseen operation, is applied to the study of man, living, developing, struggling toward a condition of happiness in the world which he knows. The culture pattern is the complex of natural and social forces which makes man what he is....For man is in and not above the vast symphony of nature of which he is a part. Let him disregard the implication of this in agricultture, and he will reap flood, soil erosion, and dust storms. If he take up trees without forethought enough to replant, his children will go without wood. The thougtless exploitation of oil reserves must have its inevitable consequence in the disappearance of one of our greatest natural resources....No facet of our modern life is omitted from this revolutionary book. The implications of his theme for politics, economic activity, and social stratification reveal the completeness with which the author has applied himself to a brilliant and unique approach to living."
