1 The Obstinate Illusion: A Historical Novel of China and America, 1920-1950 Bartlett, Robert M.
Plymouth, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Robert Bartlett 1991 0914339346 / 9780914339342 First Edition Hard Copy Very Good+ Very Good+ Inscribed By Author
Robert Bartlett, Plymouth, 1991. Inscribed by author on front free end page as follows: "To Editor Wiseman Seeker for lux et veritas". Laid in is a typed and signed letter from the author that reads as follows: "August 23, 1991 Dear Editor: Wiseman: I am enclosing a copy of my new book on China, hoping that the alumni magazine may mention it. Yale has had important contacts in China and I hope that we can reestablish some of them. Sincerely yours, [signed] Robert M. Bartlett". Below that on the letter in what appears to be another handwriting is "Yale Divinity 1924". (Note: Until recently, Carter Wiseman was Editor of the Yale Alumni Magazine.) Book is in Very Good+ condition: pages are a little wavy. Dust jacket is in Very Good+ condition: slight rubbing on edge; two light scratches; no chips or tears; not price clipped. A label affixed to the rear of the dust jacket says, "The Obstinate Illusion is an evocative love letter to a world that has vanished - China in the 1920s and 1930s with all the passion, color, strife, and beauty of a unique period of China's turbulent history. The narrative proceeds inevitably to the emergence of Communist rule. The tale is an irrestible tour de force. - Harrison E. Salisbury"
