Realizing that composers have occasionally applied their phrasing with consideration for the limitation of a player's bow or breath, the editors use their own conception of interpretation in phrasing the piano transcriptions. These transcriptions are not intended to offer simplified piano settings. Their main purpose is to show as fully as possible the voices of all instruments. To make the I.M.E. Orchestra Scores enlightening textbooks on the art of instrumentation, the editors preserve the accuracy of the voices' progression whenever possible. It may therefore occur that progressions lead into sustained notes being held by other insturments. However, the editors' purpose is attained without imparing the playability of the piano versons". 4 illustrations.
