Who We Are: The owner of Charter Oak Books, Marcia Goodman, is a librarian with a Master of Science in Library Science (M.S. in L.S.) degree from Syracuse University, and an attorney with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
Marcia's first career was as a university librarian, when she often commented wistfully about how much more she enjoyed being in bookstores than in libraries. Then came law school, after which she practiced law for several decades, most of which as a government attorney, helping people. She was finally able to make her dream of having her own bookstore into a reality.
Marcia's focus is helping people find the books they seek. As described below, she specializes in helping book collectors find and obtain books for their collections, or to start new collections, by using her national network of sources. We Support the Following Organizations:People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ("PETA") http://www.peta.org PETA receives much media attention for its sometimes flamboyant public relations campaigns. Those campaigns have been successful in calling attention to the abuse of animals, and many animals are now alive, or are not longer being abused, thanks to PETA. PETA has brought to the forefront the torture of animals in packing plants, animal experiment laboratories, factory farms, puppy mills, the so-called "entertainment" businessses, and other settings. They've caused many businesses to terminate animal testing and other abuse.
